Recently, the orthopedic team at Urad Rear Banner Mongolian Medicine Hospital, led by Vice President Buhe, successfully performed the hospital’s first robot-assisted lumbar discectomy. The procedure represents an important step forward in the hospital’s development of robot-assisted spine surgery.
The team collaborated with spine specialists from Inner Mongolia International Mongolian Medicine Hospital. Using the Perlove Orthopedic Surgical Robot in combination with foraminoscopy, they treated a patient with complex lumbar disc herniation and successfully completed a minimally invasive spinal treatment.

Intelligent Imaging Enables Precise Surgery
The patient was a 33-year-old individual who had suffered from complex lumbar disc herniation for a long time. The condition significantly limited daily mobility. After seeking treatment in several places, the patient eventually chose Urad Rear Banner Mongolian Medicine Hospital.
Complex lumbar disc herniation poses major surgical challenges. The lesion is located deep in the spine, and the surrounding anatomical structures are complicated. Surgeons must perform the procedure with extremely high precision.

To ensure a successful outcome, Vice President Buhe organized a preoperative multidisciplinary consultation with experts from Inner Mongolia International Mongolian Medicine Hospital. The medical team carefully reviewed imaging results and evaluated the patient’s condition. Based on this assessment, they developed a detailed surgical plan.
The procedure was supported by the Perlove 3D C-arm imaging system and the Perlove Orthopedic Surgical Robot, which provided precise intraoperative imaging and navigation.

During surgery, the 3D C-arm generated high-resolution three-dimensional images of the patient’s lumbar spine. These images clearly displayed the anatomical structures and the exact location of the lesion.
Following the pre-planned surgical trajectory, the robotic arm provided precise positioning and navigation. Using a foraminoscope, the surgeon created a working channel through a small 1–2 cm incision. Through this minimally invasive pathway, the surgeon removed the herniated nucleus pulposus and decompressed the affected nerve root.
The entire procedure demonstrated the advantages of robot-assisted spine surgery, ensuring high precision, safety, and efficiency while minimizing tissue damage.

Postoperative imaging confirmed that the surgical objectives had been achieved. The patient recovered well and was able to stand and walk independently shortly after surgery. The mobility limitations experienced before surgery were significantly relieved.
The treatment successfully achieved the goals of precise decompression, minimally invasive repair, and rapid recovery, highlighting the benefits of advanced minimally invasive spinal treatment technologies.

Precision Medicine Brings Advanced Care Closer to Patients
Buhe, Vice President of Urad Rear Banner Mongolian Medicine Hospital and Director of the Orthopedics Department, stated:
“Orthopedic surgical robots provide sub-millimeter positioning accuracy and intelligent navigation. These technologies standardize complex procedures, reduce surgical risks, and improve both efficiency and clinical outcomes.
In the past, patients with complicated spinal conditions had to travel long distances for treatment. Today, they can receive high-precision and minimally invasive care close to home.”
Buhe also emphasized that the successful procedure marks the beginning of broader applications of robot-assisted spine surgery at the hospital.
In the future, Urad Rear Banner Mongolian Medicine Hospital will continue to strengthen cooperation with higher-level medical institutions. The hospital plans to expand the clinical application of robotic technologies in spinal disease treatment and further explore the integration of traditional Mongolian medicine orthopedics with modern minimally invasive spinal treatment techniques.
Through these efforts, the hospital aims to advance orthopedic care toward greater precision, standardization, and intelligent medical practice, ensuring that local residents can access high-quality orthopedic services without leaving their region.
