How to tell if you have scoliosis, how to measure it as well as determine it.

How to test if you have scoliosis and how do we know what degree of scoliosis is considered. The human spine is made up of multiple segments, and during growth and development, it is inevitable that some spinal segments will bend for various reasons. Scoliosis belongs to one kind of spinal deformity, which is due to the spinal segments bending to the side, accompanied by the rotation of the vertebrae, and will trigger a series of symptoms such as poor posture, high and low shoulders, long and short legs, and pelvic malposition. As many as five million of the more than 300 million teenagers in China suffer from scoliosis.

Is scoliosis a curvature of the spinal segments? No. There are medical criteria and methods to determine if a patient has scoliosis.

X-rays are one of the most important indicators of the severity of scoliosis, and the most commonly used measurement is Cobb’s angle.

When measuring the degree of scoliosis, it can be divided into three steps:

First, the end vertebrae of the scoliosis need to be identified, i.e., the upper and lower end vertebrae, i.e., the vertebrae with the greatest inclination toward the concave side of the scoliosis in the scoliosis.

Next, a transverse line is drawn on the upper edge of the vertebra of the upper end-cone and on the lower edge of the vertebra of the lower end-cone, and a perpendicular line is made on each of these two transverse lines.

Finally, the angle of intersection between the vertical line of the upper edge of the upper cone and the vertical line of the lower vertebra is measured, known as the Cobb angle; a Cobb angle of ten degrees or more is considered to be scoliosis.

[Criteria for determining scoliosis].

The severity of scoliosis can be categorized according to the size of the Cobb’s angle after measurement by X-ray machine:

Scoliosis of 10-20 degrees is considered mild and does not require surgical treatment, but requires corrective exercise training under the guidance of a doctor.

20-40 degrees is a moderate scoliosis, it is recommended to have a brace treatment under the doctor’s comprehensive evaluation.

If the scoliosis is greater than 40 degrees, it is considered as severe scoliosis, and it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and surgical treatment.

When evaluating the severity of scoliosis in the coronal plane of the spine through spinal X-ray, a half-section spinal X-ray that is not a full spine puzzle can only be used as a reference for evaluating the condition of scoliosis, and if you want to get an accurate picture of the condition of the scoliosis, it is better to use a large-field flat-paneled DR to take a full spine X-ray.

As a large flatpanel dynamic DR, Perlove Medical PLX8600 is built for clinical needs of large field of view, with an effective field of view of 17″*34″, which is twice as large as that of large-size flat-panel on the market. It can cover the whole spine or both lower limbs at once, and realizes one-time imaging without splicing, which significantly improves the work efficiency and diagnostic accuracy.
