Lecture 2:What is Vertebroplasty? Why do vertebroplasty?

It is a great honor to invite Dr. Wang, the assocaite consultant from the 2nd Affiliated hospital of Nanjing Medical University, who will explain in detail what 3D imaging can bring to the clinic and how 3D imaging can improve the therapeutic effect of Surgery.

01. Anatomy of the spine

The human spine has 33 vertebrae (7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae, and 9 sacral and coccygeal vertebrae). The sacral vertebrae and coccyx vertebrae may be fused together, this is because our ancestors may have tails, which remained after degeneration to form our coccyx vertebrae. The coccyx does not perform a certain function, but the other vertebrae are very important.

02. The main role of the spine

◆ First, load.

The spine bears the entire weight of the human body.

◆ Second, shock absorption.

Our intervertebral discs are elastic, and the spine can give the body a certain shock absorption effect.

◆ Third, exercise.

All our vertebral vertebrae (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, etc.) can carry out a certain range of activities, relying on the activities between these vertebral vertebrae to exercise our lumbar or cervical spine, or such a function of our human body movement.

◆ Fourth, protection.

The spine has a protective role, protecting our spinal cord and central nervous system from damage

The spine is the main axis of the human skeleton and the control center of all activities

Pay attention to health, starting from caring for the spine
