Due to the dense network of spinal nerves and blood vessels, traditional scoliosis surgery carries a high risk of nerve or spinal cord injury. The intelligent spinal surgery robot-assisted surgical technique has matured in the application of thoracolumbar surgery. However, its use in cervical surgery, spinal tumor surgery, and percutaneous spinal surgery is still in its early stages. This technology offers advantages in precise positioning and minimizing surgical trauma, thereby improving patient outcomes.

Perlove Medical has been deeply involved in the medical imaging field for over 20 years, positioning itself as a professional medical imaging company. It is the first domestic supplier to offer a one-stop solution combining spinal surgery robots and 3D C-arm technology. The intelligent spinal surgery robot system can achieve sub-millimeter precision with real-time tracking, boasting clinical accuracy of up to 0.7 mm. This significantly reduces intraoperative radiation and enhances surgical efficiency, simplifying complex surgeries, standardizing routine procedures, minimizing invasiveness in open surgeries, and promoting the equal distribution of medical resources. It is especially advantageous for minimally invasive procedures and high-risk area surgeries, effectively reducing surgical risks and complications.

Case Study: Assisted Lumbar Surgery with Intelligent Spinal Surgery Robot

Patient Information

  • Age: 70 years
  • Gender: Female
  • Preoperative diagnosis: Lumbar spinal stenosis
  • Surgical plan: Robot-assisted “posterior lumbar fixation and interbody fusion” surgery

Surgical Process

Using the Perlove Medical flat 3D C-arm, the patient was scanned to obtain intraoperative 3D images, which were then transmitted to the intelligent spinal surgery robot workstation. Based on these high-precision 3D imaging data, the surgeon used surgical planning software to precisely plan the placement of 14 screws in a single step.

Compared with traditional surgery, this technology significantly simplifies the surgical process. In traditional surgery, manual screw placement requires multiple attempts, making the procedure cumbersome while increasing the risk and time involved. The use of the intelligent spinal surgery robot allows the paths of multiple screws to be planned in one step, greatly saving planning time, simplifying surgical steps, and significantly improving the accuracy of screw placement.

After completing the surgical approach, the robotic arm of the intelligent spinal surgery robot maintained a stable trajectory to guide the procedure, allowing the surgeon to focus on drilling and screw placement. Thanks to the robot’s guidance, the entry of the guide needle became more stable, achieving sub-millimeter accuracy and ensuring surgical precision.

In traditional surgery, the repeated insertion of the guide needle is a significant challenge for a surgeon’s skill, experience, and hand stability. The intelligent spinal surgery robot not only guarantees precision in needle placement but also exhibits high repeatability, reducing individual differences in the surgery and dependence on experience.

In traditional percutaneous spinal screw fixation surgeries, multiple intraoperative X-rays are often unavoidable, which not only extends the surgery but also increases radiation exposure to medical staff and patients. The introduction of the intelligent spinal surgery robot enables one-time planning and precise screw placement, significantly reducing radiation exposure, ensuring surgical safety. This technology not only improves surgical precision and reduces risk but also enhances overall surgical efficiency. By integrating 3D imaging and intelligent navigation technology, the intelligent spinal surgery robot provides more patients with an efficient, precise, and intelligent full-process solution, opening a new era in spinal surgery.
