Dynamic Digital Radiography (Dynamic DR) systems are widely used in modern medical imaging diagnosis due to their advantages such as real-time imaging, low-dose radiation, and multi-functional examination capabilities. When conducting Dynamic DR imaging for patients, radiographers should adjust the tube voltage and tube current according to the type of equipment and the thickness of the examined body part, so as to set reasonable exposure parameters.
Combined with the Clinical Operation and Quality Control Specifications for Dynamic Digital X-ray Imaging Technology, this article provides the recommended exposure parameters and adjustment principles for Dynamic DR imaging of various body parts, for the reference of radiographers and clinicians.
1. Fixed Dynamic DR Equipment
1.1 Recommended Exposure Parameters for Dynamic Chest Imaging
- Pulsed Exposure: Tube voltage > 110 kV, tube current 100 mA ~ 140 mA (for recumbent position, tube current 80 mA ~ 100 mA is optional), acquisition rate 15 frames/s, single-frame exposure time 5 ms.
- Continuous Exposure: Tube voltage 80 kV ~ 110 kV, tube current 2 mA ~ 20 mA, acquisition rate not less than 12 frames/s.
1.2 Recommended Exposure Parameters for Extremity Joint and Cervical Spine Imaging
- Pulsed Exposure: Tube voltage 85 kV ~ 95 kV, tube current 125 mA ~ 250 mA, single-pulse exposure time 5 ms, acquisition rate 6 frames/s.
- Continuous Exposure: Tube voltage 70 kV ~ 95 kV, tube current 2 mA ~ 20 mA, acquisition rate not less than 12 frames/s.
1.3 Recommended Exposure Parameters for Lumbar Spine and Hip Joint Imaging
- Pulsed Exposure: Tube voltage 100 kV ~ 110 kV, tube current 630 mA ~ 710 mA, single-pulse exposure time 5 ms ~ 6.3 ms, acquisition rate 6 frames/s.
- Continuous Exposure: Tube voltage 80 kV ~ 110 kV, tube current 4 mA ~ 20 mA, acquisition rate not less than 12 frames/s.

Dynamic DR Imaging of the Spine
2. Mobile Dynamic DR Equipment
2.1 Recommended Exposure Parameters for Dynamic Chest Imaging
- Pulsed Exposure: Tube voltage ≥ 90 kV, tube current 60 mA ~ 80 mA, acquisition rate 15 frames/s, single-frame exposure time 5 ms.
- Continuous Exposure: Tube voltage 80 kV ~ 110 kV, tube current 2 mA ~ 20 mA, acquisition rate not less than 12 frames/s.
2.2 Recommended Exposure Parameters for Extremity Joint and Cervical Spine Imaging
For extremity joints and cervical spine: Tube voltage 70 kV ~ 95 kV, tube current 2 mA ~ 5 mA, acquisition rate not less than 12 frames/s.
2.3 Recommended Exposure Parameters for Lumbar Spine and Hip Joint Imaging
For lumbar spine and hip joint: Tube voltage 80 kV ~ 110 kV, tube current 4 mA ~ 5 mA, acquisition rate not less than 12 frames/s.
3. Additional Filtration

It is advisable to use an additional filtration of 1 mm Al (aluminum) + 0.5 mm Cu (copper).
Dynamic DR
4. Exposure Mode
To reduce radiation dose, the pulsed exposure mode should be preferred.
The exposure parameters of Dynamic DR need to be dynamically adjusted based on equipment performance and clinical requirements. For example, the Perlove Suspended Dynamic DR can perform accurate spot imaging under low-dose digital fluoroscopy, and is equipped with a DAP (Dose-Area Product) radiation dose monitoring system. This system displays the single-exposure dose intensity in real time, facilitating doctors to control the dose intake and helping them achieve the dual goals of accurate diagnosis and medical radiation protection.
